Coffee with Snezana & Suzy

Assalamualaikum w.b.t,

I haven't posted for quite some time. Can't believe that we're now in 2018 and that the whole month of January has passed. Time flies so quickly.

Now for my first entry of the year, I'll share a story told to me by Suzy, during our coffee break. So normally, after working non-stop picking up rubbish and cleaning the toilets, we'll stop for a 15 minutes coffee break, before continuing with vacuuming - your average cleaner life.

Anyways, it is during this coffee break that we get to share stories, perspectives, and culture (as well as gossiping).

So Suzy was telling both me and Snezana this morning about the one time where a white Australian male, a resident of Toad Hall, took a big trash bag, place the said bag in front of one black student's room, and set the trash on fire. This caused the fire alarm and sprinklers to go off and the police and firefighters coming. Back then, no idea why, but the Toad Hall management thought that it's a good idea to place the black students in one block and the white Australians in another block. Mind you this was years and years ago (thank God!).

And Suzy was so surprised. She said she couldn't believe her eyes that this white boy would do such a horrendous thing. She asked the boy personally the next day, when things have calmed down a bit, "Why did you that? Why did you do such a thing?"

His answer was simple, "I hate black people. Their palms are so white but their skin is so dark and I can't see them and that scares me"

As I was listening to this, I covered my gaping mouth. That's blatant racism. Well it's good to know that in the end the authorities found out that he was the perp for the hate crime arson and while he doesn't stay in Toad Hall anymore after that, Suzy doesn't know what becomes of him afterwards.

Well the takeaway from this story for me is that, though initially I wanted him to rot in hell, but then I hope that he changed for the better. If he does, then I hope he's forgiven. Everybody should always be given the chance to be forgiven and the chance for them to change for the better.

Also, I'd like to say that I really love listening to AAVE (African-American Vernacular English). So much sass! Check out my favourite interviews in AAVE below either by clicking on the title or just google their name down:
